Jewish Cultural Heritage

DFG-Priority Program 2357

The priority program, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), aims at scholars of different disciplines who research Jewish cultural heritage in Europe. The project consists of two consecutive funding periods of three years each. Interdisciplinary teams of scholars will critically examine the tangible and intangible issues of Jewish cultural heritage, including, but not limited to objects, contexts of origin, transmission and innovation processes of Jewish cultural heritage. They will develop strategies to involve Jewish communities and institutions in the processes of patrimonializing their heritage. The overall objective of the program is to develop an understanding of the discursivation of the cultural heritage of Jews in Europe, and to support Jewish communities with means of empowerment.
